Send photos directly to facebook with new Phanfare facebook app

with 28 comments

We just improved the integration between facebook and Phanfare. You can now select photos from within an album and publish them directly to facebook. This action will copy the photos to a new facebook album, allowing your friends and family to tag or comment within facebook.

Previously, the facebook Phanfare app would only post external links into your facebook newsfeed. We left this style of publishing as well, for those who like it. The benefit of the old integration was that your facebook friends could see your entire phanfare album with music and description. But the benefit of the new facebook integration is that your facebook friends can tag and comment on images.

Personally, I like the new facebook integration much better because I only publish a small subset of my photos to facebook from Phanfare.

Here are some instructions on using the new Phanfare facebook app. If you have any problems with photos you push winding up in a state where they are waiting to be approved on the facebook side, try deleting the facebook Phanfare app and re-adding it by initiating a send of photos from Phanfare.

We will be adding “push-to-facebook” feature to Phanfare Photon soon for all you iPhone and iPod touch users.

  1. Wow! This is great! I just gave it a try and it works really well. And the best part is that it's done on the back end. I don't have to sit there waiting while my bandwidth is being used up or my computer slows down trying to process the request. I just mark the photos and it happens. Sweet! This is definitely an attractive new feature. Just one upload for full-res backups and genuine Facebook import!I love the direction this is going. Here's hoping that we'll hear more about further and more steamlined integration. iPhoto '09 plugin?

  2. Dang. I didn't realize how fast and smart it was! By the time I clicked 'ok' and got to my Facebook album page, 20 photos were already up and by the time I was finished looking at a few of those, the 3rd new FB album was up.Feature Request: Automatically dividing Phanfare with Sections into different (and differently named) Facebook albums. That would be great!

  3. Also, any chance that we could check a box to have a link to the Phanfare album/photo automatically added as a comment to the album/photo? And what about videos? Is there any support for that?As you can tell… I'm a little excited about this.

  5. Actually I don't have iPhoto '09 yet. What I meant was an iPhoto '09 plugin that could harvest face tags and put them to good use. 🙂

  6. Very cool feature…something that I used to do manually until now! Thanks Phanfare! Feature Request: Allow photos to be added to an existing album on facebook? My facebook albums are not event-specific but rather time-specific…i.e. summer, winter, etc. So i add a few good pics from each phanfare album to facebook albums. The add to <existing album> feature would be great!

  8. This IS cool. What I would like is to able to tag photos with the word facebook on my computer and have those pushed directly to facebook when uploaded. Or maybe when uploading photos using Lightroom, it could just be the ones with 5 stars get pushed to facebook. There has to be a way to do it all in a single step. This is great. Like it a lot.

  12. the facebook transfer moves images to facebook. comments and tags added on facebook don't get synched back.

  13. Is it currently even possible, or does FB not allow this?

  14. It's against the Facebook TOS to store any queried information besides certain unique identifiers. Really it wouldn't be technically possible without some sync'ing support on Facebook's side, otherwise Phanfare would have no way of knowing that data on Facebook changed.

  16. […] You can now send photos directly to facebook from your Phanfare account using Phanfare Photon on the iPhone. This facility mirrors the feature for facebook transfer already available on the web. […]

  17. Thanks for this new feature! I want to echo what some other people said about allowing us to add photos to existing Facebook albums. Without that, I'm afraid this isn't too useful to me yet since I typically trickle photos into a Facebook album over the course of a couple of months before starting a new one. Also, will we ever be able to share videos with Facebook this way?

  19. This is phantastic! I wish I knew about this before. My only question is why I can't do it from the phanfare app?

  20. you can do it from the web version of our app (login at http://www.phanfare.com) but not from the downloadable mac and pc clients. we may add it if there is sufficient interest.

  21. I'm excited for video support to be added!I'd like to register my “interest” in seeing this added to the pc client. I strictly use the pc client for uploading and being able to add to facebook from here would negate me having to go into the web version to do it saving me time. Thanks!

  24. I'm certainly not rooting for Vulcan to fail. In fact, with all the money the banks are getting via all the different “acronyms” (TARP etc.), shouldn't the builders get some bailout love from above also?Shit…give flippers and every freakin homeowner a damn thrift savings plan bailout also (debt forgiveness)….just so we can lower prices and get the party started again.
